
May 16, (THEWILL) – Operatives of the Anti-Bomb Squad of the Borno State Police Command have successfully defused a bomb planted by suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents at the Internally Displaced Persons Camp (IDPs) in Dalori in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
Dalori camp is located a few kilometres away from Maiduguri on the Maiduguri-Bama Road.
According to a counter-insurgency expert based in the Lake Chad area, Zagazola Makama, the bomb scare began at about 6:00 am when an item concealed in a sack, suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device, was spotted, causing the residents of the camp to abandon their shelters and flee.
He said that for about three hours, everyone including armed police officers at the camp stood far away, waiting for the anti-bomb squad to verify the content of the sack.
He added that the team of the EOD later came and discovered that it was an explosive, planted in the camp to cause havoc.
“The IEDs were successfully detonated without causing any casualties,” he added.
The State Commissioner of Police, Abdul Umar, who confirmed the incident at a briefing held at the Command Headquarters in Maiduguri, said the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel of the command were immediately dispatched to the scene for disposal and evacuation.
Umar said “An unidentified element suspected to be an IED Planted inside a plastic bucket with a panel close to the fence of the camp by suspected insurgents was discovered.
“The IED was successfully defused by the EOD team without causing any casualties”, he said

In April, the Nigerian Army said troops of Operation Desert Sanity discovered workshops for making IEDs in Sambisa forest.
In the same month, an IED was found in Shanono, a community in Rigasa, Igabi LGA of Kaduna state, making it the fifth one discovered in less than a month.
