February 12, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has lost one of its senior officers, Lawan Tanko Jimeta, an Assistant Inspectors General in charge of Zone 5, comprising Edo, Delta and Bayelsa states.
AIG Jimeta died on Sunday morning, at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin City, after a brief illness.
The spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed the sad development in a statement on Sunday.
“Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With a heavy heart but total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I wish to announce the death of A.I.G Lawan Tanko Jimeta
“He died at the Teaching Hospital, Benin Edo State, this morning after a brief Illness.
“To Allah, we belong and to him, we shall return, a real departure of a Godly man.
“May he give the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, am in”, Ahmed Wakil, said:
Born September 9, 1964, in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State, AIG Jimeta holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in the English Language from the University of Maiduguri; and a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the National Open University.
He enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on 3rd March 1990 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and was trained in the Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna State.
AIG Jimeta has served in various capacities in the Nigeria Police including Edo State Commissioner of Police, Personal Assistant to the AIG of Police, Department of Training and Development, FHQ Annex, Lagos State and Chief of Training, Directorate on Peace-keeping, FHQ, Abuja as well as Area Commander, Suleja.
