September 21, (THEWILL) – Operatives of the Cross River State Police Command have uncovered a factory producing guns and explosives in Osomba community in Akamkpa Local Government Area of the State.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Irene Ugbo, said the factory was uncovered on Monday, by the team of Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad, led by SP Ogini Chukwuma.

Speaking on Wednesday, Ugbo said the operation, which lasted four hours, led to the recovery of remote-controlled Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs), detonators, and several automatic weapons, as well as dozens of locally made double barrel guns and pistols.

Ugbo, however, disclosed that nine suspects, whom she described as “known gun runners,” were apprehended at the factory.

“Once we are done with our investigation they will be charged to court. This is a pure act of terrorism for them to be making explosives right inside a community with highly sophisticated remote detonators, indicators and so on.

“It’s a huge breakthrough for the Command and we are not relenting in our quest to rid the State of crimes and criminalities, as a matter of fact, we have taken the war to the criminal,” she said.
