SAN FRANCISCO, September 12, (THEWILL) – The Rivers State Police Command on Thursday night barred the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi and his guests, former Speakers of State Assemblies, from accessing the government house through the back gate, which also serves as the governor’s private entrance to the compound.
The bizarre incident occurred around 8.pm local time.
Amaechi and the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu have been at loggerheads since the governor fell out with the President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience.
THEWILL gathered that the police had earlier barricaded the road (Forces Avenue) with their patrol vehicles as part of measures to prevent the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Amaechi from commissioning its proposed secretariat at 38 Forces Avenue.
The police had successfully stopped the Amaechi faction of the party from commissioning a new secretariat.
A source in the police force said the order to bar the commissioning was given from Abuja.
Sources familiar with the development told THEWILL that even when the governor alighted from the convoy and identified himself to the policemen they refused him passage.
The convoy eventually did a detour after about 30 minutes and entered the government house through the main gate.
