SAN FRANCISCO, November 09, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr. Ibrahim Mustafa Magu as the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), a presidency statement by Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, said Wednesday night.
“Mr. Magu, who is an Assistant Commissioner of Police is to take over from Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde who is proceeding on terminal leave ahead of the formal expiration of his tenure in February next year,” the statement added.
Lamorde was appointed in 2011 by former President Goodluck Jonathan. He succeeded former Chairman, Mrs. Farida Waziri.
Allegations of misappropriation of funds had dogged Lamorde, prompting a Senate investigation.
A petitioner had alleged that he diverted at least N1 trillion recovered from the former deceased Bayelsa governor, Mr. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and other politicians.
Mr. Wilson Uwajaren, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, said that Lamorde had requested to appear before the Senate committee investigating the allegations at an appropriate date. As at the time of his removal he was yet to appear before the senate committee.
