May 08, (THEWILL) – The Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC), sitting at the Appeal Court, Abuja, has adjourned sitting to Tuesday, May 9, 2023.
THEWILL earlier reported that the 5-member panel of the court, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, commenced a pre-hearing session on the petitions challenging the declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as winner of the February 25 presidential election in Nigeria.
At the commencement of the pre-hearing session on Monday, in Abuja, the court granted leave to the Action Alliance (AA) to withdraw its petition against Tinubu.
The court also commenced pre-hearing on the petition filed by the Labour Party (LP) and its Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi.
However, Chairman of the Court, Justice Tsammani, announced that the Tribunal will reconvene on Tuesday, for the pre-hearing of petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar; as well as the petition of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The Court has also adjourned further hearing on the petition of the LP and Peter Obi against the INEC, APC, Tinubu and Shettima to 2pm, Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
Earlier, the court received the application filed by the PDP and Atiku, urging the PEPC to allow live coverage of day-to-day proceedings of the court.
Chris Uche, Atiku’s lawyer, who spoke on the televised proceedings, said, “Televising court proceedings is not alien to this honourable court, and will enhance public confidence.”
