June 06, (THEWILL) – The race for the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has created a division within the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, THEWILL reports.

It would be recalled that last Saturday 11 state governors from the North had called for a power shift to the South.

Sources told THEWILL that the National Chairman of the  APC,  Abubakar Adamu,  announced the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, to the governors as the preferred Consensus presidential candidate of the party.

According to our findings, the northern governors opposed to the development, are currently meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the state house Abuja, over the development.

The meeting has in attendance Governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State; Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State; Aminu Masari of Katsina Staste; Abubakar Bello of Nger State; Sule Abdullahi of Nasarawa State; Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State; Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State; Babagana Zulum of Borno State; Simon Lalong of Plateau State; Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State and Mai Mala Buni of Kebbi State.

The source further said that the NWC of the party is also divided over the choice of Ahmad Lawan, while  Iyiola Omisore,  the party’s National Secretary, has maintained a strong opposition to a northen presidency.
