December 18, (THEWILL) – Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), of the existence of 25 vacant seats in the state’s legislative chamber.
A High Court in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, December 12, declared Edison Ehie, as the authentic Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The court, presided over by Justice M.W. Danagogo, in an ex parte motion brought by Ehie, had restrained Martins Amaewhule from parading himself as the Speaker.
THEWILL had reported that 25 Rivers Assembly lawmakers, led by Martins Chike Amaewhule, on Monday, December 11, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ehie, who is leading 6 of the 32-member Assembly loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, asked INEC to commence the process of conducting election into the 25 vacant seats in Rivers State House of Assembly.
The letter, dated December 14th, was received and acknowledged by electoral body on Friday, December 15.
