SAN FRANCISCO, February 26, (THEWILL) – Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted that the Supplementary re-run elections into the Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency and Etche II State Constituency seats Rivers state was relatively peaceful.
This was contained in a statement signed by Tonia Nwobifor for the Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC, Rivers state, revealing that the election was peaceful to the tune of 80%.
Nwobifor also declared that no INEC staff lost his/her hand to political thugs in response to reports by some Media houses (not THEWILL) that gave the ‘false’ report, adding that the INEC staff who was abducted has been released.
“The Supplementary re-run elections into the Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency and Etche II State Constituency seats took place today February 25, 2017,” the statement read.
“The elections kicked-off on time in 80% of the polling units slated for the election except in some polling units where pockets of violence, physical attack on staff, snatching of election materials etc. were recorded.
“As at the time of filling this report, all 745 Staff of the Commission that were mobilizes from Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa-Ibom and Cross Rivers States have returned and collation of results is on-going.
“However, the only abducted staff has been released and no INEC staff lost his/her hand to political thugs as reported by some Media houses.”
