July 19, (THEWILL) – Armed robbers, in the late hours of Tuesday, blocked the Naka-Makurdi Highway in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, where they dispossessed passengers of their valuables.
One of the victims, who is the Benue State correspondent of National Record Newspaper, Comrade Amos Terna Aar, said the attack occurred at about 9pm along Naka-Makurdi road, a few kilometres from Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
According to Aar, the robbers dispossessed him of his Android phone and money while two female passengers were raped in an operation which lasted for hours.
He said the robbers, numbering about ten, in the course of the operation, sounded a warning that any passenger without money or mobile phone is at great risk, including death.
According to him, even after the operation, the robbers turned down the plea by passengers, who begged for the release of their sim cards.
Comrade Aar, who attributed the robbery to the late take-off of the vehicle from Otukpo at about 7:30pm due to an increment in transport fare as a result of the high cost of fuel in the market, decried the night journey.
