October 08, (THEWILL) – The Anambra State Government says the rumoured defection of the State deputy governor Dr. Nkem Okeke to the All Progressives Congress (APC) , is “unofficial”
The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Political Matters, Barr. Ifeatu Obiokoye in a chat with newsmen on Friday, said the Deputy Governor has not made any official statement declaring categorically that he has defected to the All Progressives (APC), stressing that until the Okeke makes an official statement to that effect, his rumoured defection remains unofficial.
The governor’s aide also noted that not even the media aide to the Deputy Governor has come out publicly in writing to say that his Principal has left the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the APC.
He said, “The Deputy Governor is brilliant and educated enough to know that there is a process of resignation. So no one writes a love letter and claim it’s official. As I speak with you now, there is no official letter signed by the Deputy Governor that he has left APGA to APC.
“For those who have suddenly found solace in APC because of the election, there are two classes. The first class I call prisoners of war. Those who have problems with EFCC. Those who have cases pending with EFCC including some members of the state assembly, some national assembly members.
“The second class of people who defected to the APC are the hungry in spirit. A lot of people do not understand the fundamentals and foundations of the existence of APGA. APGA is not the normal political party.
“It is a political movement borne out of the spirit that Ndigbo must have their own platform. There is a deliberate attempt by the Igbos of Anambra state to sustain APGA.
“Even Andy Uba recognises the fact that the ordinary Igbo voter will not vote for APC and himself. It is double Jeopardy for him. So we are not perturbed by the scheming of defectors.”
