BEVERLY HILLS, August 24, (THEWILL) – The suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, is yet to formally present his defense before the judicial commission of inquiry probing allegations of corruption against him.
His counsel, Wahab Shittu, says proceedings are ongoing and witnesses are still lined up for next week, beginning from Monday, dismissing claims that an interim report has been submitted to President Muhamadu Buhari.
In a statement, he says his client has not been served with copies of the allegations, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, whose memo triggered the proceedings, is yet to be summoned to testify.
He reveals that his client has been unable to access official documents and other information necessary for his defense due to his suspension from office and witnesses were not sworn on oath before giving evidence.
Mr. Shittu also questioned the transformation of the administrative panel of inquiry led by Justice Ayo Salami into a judicial commission as worrisome.
He urged those bent on prejudicing the proceedings through false stories in the public space to think of the interest of the nation, stating that the only thing keeping his client going is the conviction of his innocence.

His final words were that no one is entitled to condemn his client before he is heard or afforded the opportunity of defending himself.
