December 19, (THEWILL) – Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, unveiled the Ikeja overpass T-bridge.
The Ikeja overpass is the fourth to be inaugurated by the Governor within the last two months.
Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRasak, joined Sanwo-Olu in unveiling the bridge on Tuesday.
The Bridge, which is T-shaped with a length of 620 meters, is one of five overpasses ceded to Lagos State for construction over the Red Line corridor where the Nigeria Railway Corporation and Red Line will share tracks.
Inaugurating the bridge on Tuesday, Sanwo-Olu said the bridge will significantly reduce traffic congestion on the Obafemi Awolowo Way, the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and the Old Lagos-Abeokuta Motorway.
The Governor noted that the flyover bridge will help transform the State and also save time on the road, amongst others.
He reiterated his commitment to work with private initiatives to provide a transport system that is safe, seamless and secure for Lagosians.
Sanwo-Olu appealed to commuters and motorists against turning the bridge to a bus station.
Governor AbdulRasak, in his remarks, commended the efforts of the Lagos State Government, noting that the road project is focused on national development.
On his part, Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, urged commuters and motorists to adhere to traffic rules and regulations
Osiyemi warned that hawking and selling as well as the use of bikes on the bridge remain prohibited.
