BEVERLY HILLS, August 29, (THEWILL) – Primary and secondary schools in Lagos State will tentatively reopen on September 21, 2020, after months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic, State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced Saturday during a briefing.
The governor also announced the reopening of tertiary institutions for September 14, 2020.
“This decision is not cast in stone and is subject to review of our ongoing modelling and what procedure comes out from the Ministry of Health,” he said.
The governor reiterated that restaurants will continue to run at 50% capacity for in person dining adding that the 10pm federal government mandated curfew is still in effect.
Sanwo-Olu said it appears the virus has peaked in Lagos as cases continue to decline. With the development, he said a review will be done in September to decide whether to reopen bars, nightclubs, cinemas, event centers, etc.
More than 18, 000 people have been infected by the virus in the State, making it the epicenter of the pandemic in the country. It recorded 24 new cases on Thursday and 27 on Friday.
Nigeria has recorded more than 53, 000 cases of the coronavirus, a number many analysts believe is inaccurate because of the country’s weak testing capacity.
