
October 16, (THEWILL) – Security operatives of the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) have sealed up the Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State.
THEWILL gathered that the development may not be unconnected to efforts by security operatives to prevent the planned protest by the opposition party against the continued absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in the State, after his return from medical vacation abroad.
The Governor has been in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, since his return from a medical vacation in Germany.
The PDP Publicity Secretary in Ondo State, Kennedy Peretei, said the security operatives arrived at the party secretariat around 7am on Monday.
“Police and DSS officers have sealed up our party Secretariat to prevent a peaceful protest by PDP youths demanding Akeredolu’s whereabouts after being absent from the State since April 2023,” he said.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), in a statement issued on Sunday, by its Publicity Secretary, Alex Kalejaye, had alleged of plan by the PDP to instigat crisis in the State ahead of the 2024 governorship election.
“The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has uncovered the plans by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to instigate crisis in Akure, the State capital, on Monday.
“The essence of the arrangement, it was further gathered, is to create a semblance of political instability in the peaceful State, in addition to portraying the ruling party in a bad light, ahead of the governorship election coming up next year,” Kalejaye alleged.
However, the Ondo PDP denied the allegation of planning to foment a crisis in the State.
