Lamido Yuguda

May 11, (THEWILL) — The Senate has confirmed Lamido Yuguda as a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), following his nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in March 2026.

Yuguda’s confirmation, concluded in April 2026, forms part of ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration to reinforce leadership at the apex bank amid broader economic stabilisation reforms.

A former Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Yuguda brings extensive experience in financial regulation and public sector economic management.

He previously served at the CBN in various capacities, including as Director of Reserve Management, before retiring from the bank in 2016.

His return to the apex bank comes as the CBN, under Governor Olayemi Cardoso, continues to implement institutional and policy adjustments aimed at strengthening monetary policy coordination, banking supervision, and overall financial system resilience.

While the CBN has yet to formally announce portfolio allocations for the newly confirmed deputy governors, Yuguda is widely expected given his regulatory background to contribute significantly to financial systemThe oversight and stability functions within the bank’s leadership structure.

The latest appointment adds to earlier leadership adjustments within the CBN.

In 2023, the Senate confirmed four deputy governors assigned to key portfolios including Corporate Services, Economic Policy, Financial System Stability, and Operations, as part of a broader restructuring of the bank’s management framework.

Further internal role distributions for Yuguda and other deputy governors are expected to be formally communicated by the CBN in due course.
