SAN FRANCISCO, February 03, (THEWILL) – The President of the Senate, His Excellency Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, Ph.D. CON, has expressed appreciation for the petition letter addressed to him by Professor Kingsley Moghalu, convener of To Build A Nation (TBAN) and a presidential candidate in the 2019 general election.
In his petition letter, Moghalu prescribed electoral reform and diaspora voting in Nigeria’s elections. In his response, the Senate President described the reform recommendations as “timely”, while also enjoining Moghalu to “continue to participate as we strive to build a virile democracy.”
“I am pleased to receive the Senate President’s response to my letter to the National Assembly pushing for electoral reform,” said Moghalu, who is a former official of the United Nations and former Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria. “It is encouraging to see his responsiveness. TBAN looks forward to national legislation on this urgent matter at the soonest possible time.”

The Senate President assured that the 9th Senate, in line with its legislative agenda, had already commenced legislative action on the extant electoral act to bring it in conformity with global best practices.
