December 28, (THEWILL) – Senator Barau Jibrin (APC Kano North) has reaffirmed his commitment to identifying and sponsoring qualified students from Kano State for higher degrees in foreign institutions, emphasizing the need to prioritize education for the growth and development of the state.
Speaking on Saturday during the send-off ceremony for 70 students heading to India to pursue master’s degrees in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics Engineering, and other fields, Senator Jibrin said the initiative was designed to support students irrespective of their socio-economic or political backgrounds.
“I will continue to identify and sponsor qualified students of Kano origin for master’s degrees, regardless of their economic or social status, or political inclinations,” the lawmaker said.
Senator Jibrin urged the beneficiaries to dedicate themselves to their studies and act as exemplary ambassadors of Kano State and Nigeria throughout their academic journey.
“I don’t know any of you personally; you were selected purely on merit and not based on political, social, or economic considerations. I encourage you to study hard, justify this sponsorship, and return home to contribute meaningfully to the development of yourselves, Kano State, and Nigeria,” he added.
The senator also highlighted the importance of achieving academic excellence and advised the students to maintain focus on their studies to graduate with distinction.
In his remarks, the Kano State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Abdullahi Abbas, lauded Senator Jibrin’s gesture, describing it as a strategic investment in the future of Kano State and the country at large.
“This initiative will further develop the beneficiaries, prepare them for future challenges, and contribute to the overall progress of Kano and Nigeria. It is a commendable example of leadership,” Abbas said.
He added that the APC in Kano would consider replicating a similar programme when it regains power in the state in 2027.
The send-off ceremony featured the presentation of travel packages to the beneficiaries, including their travel documents, laptop computers, hijabs for the female students, and copies of the Holy Qur’an.
The scholarship programme was facilitated by the Barau I. Jibrin Foundation, which has been instrumental in fostering educational advancement in Kano State.
The students are expected to undergo rigorous academic training in India and return equipped with the knowledge and skills to drive innovation and development in Kano and Nigeria.
