
SAN FRANCISCO, June 29, (THEWILL) – Justice M.A Onyetenu of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has convicted and sentenced a former banker, Ikechukwu Chukwuma, to six months imprisonment for defrauding his bank, Diamond Bank, of N28 million.
The judge ordered the convict to pay N15 million to the bank adding that the sentence is to run from March 15, the day he was convicted.
Chukwuma, a Resident Internal Control Auditor in charge of Ikwerre Road and Oyigbo Branches of Diamond Bank, both in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and Yenagoa Branch in Bayelsa State, used his position and influence to fraudulently transfer N28 million into his account.
He was first arraigned on July 2, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Justice Onyetenu found him guilty of the three charges against him, and sentenced him accordingly.
