November 10, (THEWILL) — Bandits on Sunday attacked Yan Kwada village in the Faruruwa community of Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, abducting five nursing mothers and carting away about 50 cows and other livestock.
The attackers were said to have stormed the village on motorcycles in the early hours of the day, breaking into homes and forcefully taking away the women.
Chairman of the Security Committee for Faruruwa and surrounding communities, Alhaji Yahya Bagobiri, confirmed the incident to journalists in Kano on Monday.
Bagobiri lamented the persistent attacks in the area despite the deployment of heavily armed security personnel.
He said hundreds of residents have been fleeing the community following the latest assault.
“We continue to experience these attacks almost daily despite the presence of the military and other security personnel.
“Even when the bandits came yesterday, we alerted the security agents, but nothing was done until the terrorists raided our houses and abducted the nursing mothers,” he said.
According to him, the assailants forcefully separated the infants from the mothers during the attack, leaving the babies behind.
He, however, disclosed that one of the abducted women managed to escape and return home, while four others remain in captivity.
Bagobiri appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and heads of security agencies to urgently intervene to halt the escalating attacks.
“We appreciate the deployment already made, but we are requesting for more troops and equipment to secure our communities and stop this suffering,” he added.
