BEVERLY HILLS, June 13, (THEWILL) – Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff who was earlier prevented by policemen from entering the Wadata Plaza National Secretariat of the party in Abuja when he arrived the premises to “resume officially and takeover” earlier on Monday has successfully gained entrance into the premises.
The former Borno state governor, who stormed the Secretariat with over 500 his supporters, all in white T-Shirt with his name inscribed on them, was prevented from gaining access to the premises by security operatives stationed at the gate.
He told journalists outside the secretariat that he was at the party headquarters to resume duty because he remains the National Chairman of the PDP until the subsisting court cases were dispensed with.
THEWILL recalls that Sheriff was chairman before the party’s national convention held in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, on May 21. Before leaving the city, he announced the cancellation of the convention, citing court orders but other party leaders ignored him and went ahead with the convention.
The convention announced Sheriff’s sack and the appointment of a national caretaker committee headed by former Kaduna State governor, Ahmed Makarfi. Members of the committee were assigned portfolios late last week.
THEWILL can report that the factional Chairman eventually gained entry into the Wadata Plaza office after the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase ordered the withdrawal of a detachment of policemen attached to the headquarters.
