SAN FRANCISCO, September 26, (THEWILL) – Borno State governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, said his wish is to go back to school after his tenure as governor in order to become an “intellectual in the true sense.”
Disclosing that though his intention was to bag a doctorate degree at a go, he said he had to stop after obtaining a Master degree .
The governor, who said though he left the university as a lecturer to join the banking industry, he remained passionate about returning to the ivory tower.
He said it was in the bank that he made his wealth and had accelerated promotion but he preferred to be addressed as a former lecturer than an ex-banker.
“I dreamt of having a PhD but stopped at the Master of Science level but after the political interregnum I wish to go back and get a PhD so that one can become a true intellectual in the real sense,” the Borno State governor said.
Shettima made the disclosure on Thursday while receiving in audience the Council of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Alhaji Balama Manu, in his office in Maiduguri.
The governor, who is an alma mater and later a lecturer at the institution, said he hopes to go back to UNIMAID to lecture after leaving office.
Shettima said the university community remains the best as it accommodates diverse ideology,he insisted that the university was where the ideology of Boko Haram never had a footing for it moderates all ideologies.
He disclosed that he planned to build a world-class university in the state, saying a N2 billion contract would be awarded for the construction of infrastructure at the proposed site of the university.
“We want to build a glorious university and not a mushroom institution for what is worth doing at all is worth doing well,” he said.
He told the visiting team that the state government was willing to partner with the institution to build a relationship based on mutual respect.
Earlier, the pro-chancellor of the institution, who led a team which included the proprietress of Stationery Stores of Football Club of Lagos, Princess Gloria Adebajo- Fraser, asked the governor to extend courtesy to his alma mater and former employer.
