October 24, (THEWILL) – Nigerian singer, Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, said he and his family now live under perpetual fear, following the recent invasion of his residence by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
After the singer had spoken about the EFCC invasion in his home, the singer revealed on the latest episode of the Terms & Conditions podcast that he’s been facing threats since speaking out against the anti-graft agency, expressing concerns about his safety.
“My problem with the EFCC guys is not even the fact that they are not doing what they were paid for.
“They are now using the power to oppress people. They are oppressing me right now. I am scared for my life, I won’t lie to you. I’m scared but at the same time, I know I’m clean, that’s why I’m moving around.”
The singer revealed that he was traumatised because they put his location out there, he had sleepless nights and he had to start locking his house and even his bedroom.
The singer narrated the events in details, “What happened was I went to perform at Felabration and I came back at night, usually my daughter comes to hang out with me and stuff so I just spend time with my daughter. So my daughter slept off and I slept off, and next thing I knew a stick just tapped me you know those kinds of sticks that police have.
“They tapped me and then I woke up and was wondering ‘Who the hell are you?’ When I looked up, I saw three or four guys with Ak-47’s in my bedroom, they already got in. Three or four hefty men like club bouncers wearing armoured jackets, they had no EFCC badges on them so I was like ‘what’s going on?’ and they were like ‘We’re EFCC’ and I was wondering how.”
Continuing, Skales mentioned that the authorities confiscated his phone, conducting a thorough search without specifying their intentions. Despite repeated inquiries about the purpose of their visit, they only revealed it was based on a received tip. Subsequently, they arrested one of his artistes present at his place. Skales added that he hasn’t been summoned for questioning, and his artiste remained in custody without formal charges.
