November 06, (THEWILL) – The Sokoto state government has launched a digital and technology skills training for no fewer than 10,000 youths in state.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, at the launching ceremony, said the training is part of his administration’s commitment to ensure youths in the state embrace technology and digital skills.
Governor Aliyu, who was represented by his deputy, Idris Mohammed Gobir, revealed that the State government has approved the establishment of an ICT Development Agency.
He said already that the state Attorney General has been directed to submit the draft law to that effect.
The governor further said a plea was also made to the State House of Assembly to give the draft bill an accelerated attention.
Aliyu reiterated the state government’s commitment to continue to initiate more programmes to enable all ministries, departments, and agencies to be fully involved in all the ICT-driven initiatives.
He noted that the state was the first to establish the Ministry for Innovation and Digital Economy.
This, he said, was aimed at ensuring that the state is not left behind on issues related to information, communication, and technology (ICT).
In a welcome address, the state commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Hon. Bashir Ummarun Kwabo, said the training is organised by the ministry with the state government’s support.
The Commissioner also said the training would be conducted in batches physically and virtually.
According to him, the training has adequate representation of women would equip the participants with technical support and mentorship.
He used the opportunity to appreciate the support, commitment, and political will of the state government in Digital Economy learning for youths in the state.
