June 15, (THEWILL) – The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has inaugurated a new executive leadership for its Sokoto and District Society, with Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Mustafa becoming the 6th Chairman of the District.
During the investiture and handover ceremony held in Sokoto, the new leader succeeded Alhaji Ismail Suleiman, a renowned Accountant.
ICAN’s National President, Mallam Haruna Yahya, praised the impactful tenure and service rendered by the past Chairman of the Institute.
He equally charged the new Chairman to ensure his administration’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and national development.
The Zonal Vice Chairman, Mallam Ibrahim Alkali, underscored the pivotal role district societies play in fostering professional excellence and community development.
“Our district societies are the heartbeat of ICAN’s national impact. They drive initiatives such as the Catch Them Young Programme, deepen ethical awareness, and nurture the next generation of finance professionals”, Alkali further explained.
He charged the new executive to embrace innovation, enhance digital proficiency, and explore global partnerships while highlighting the Institute’s ongoing reforms, including digitised examinations, the Small and Medium Practice (SMP) Academy, and international certification pathways to boost competitiveness.
The outgoing chairman, Ismail Suleiman, while highlighting many achievements recorded, thanked his executive members for their dedication.
The Special Guest and Sokoto Commissioner for Commerce, Trade, and Industry, Haruna Abbas Bashir, assured the institute of the government’s continued support, particularly in areas of financial literacy, data management, and MSME development.
He said the state government recognises ICAN not just as a regulator of professional ethics, but as a key driver of accountability, transparency, and prudent financial management in government institutions.
He acknowledged the transformative power of the profession, stating that the Sokoto State Government will continue to deepen its collaboration with ICAN to empower local businesses and strengthen economic governance.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, AbdulGaniyu Mustapha, pledged to uphold the highest ethical standards of the accounting profession while working tirelessly to elevate the institute’s impact across the state.
He called on all members to support his administration in advancing ICAN’s mission of integrity, excellence, and national development.
