December 18, (THEWILL) – December 18, (THEWILL) – A member of the House of Representatives, Bashir Gorau, representing Gada/Goronyo Federal Constituency, has awarded scholarships to 1,100 students from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and other tertiary institutions across the state.

Gorau, a former Students’ Union Government president, said the initiative is aimed at supporting the academic aspirations of the beneficiaries.

Out of the 1,100 recipients, 480 are university students, while 620 are enrolled in health-related courses at various schools of health and colleges of nursing in Sokoto State.

The lawmaker, during the scholarship presentation at the auditorium of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, disclosed plans to expand the program to include polytechnic students and other institutions. He urged students in his constituency to prioritize professional courses to enhance their prospects.

Each beneficiary received N40,000, credited directly to their customized scholarship credit cards, which they can use to withdraw funds annually.

Speaking at the event, Gorau, the immediate past Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Sokoto State and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasized his commitment to empowering young people through education.

“This scholarship is part of my effort to ensure that the students in my constituency have access to the resources they need to excel academically,” he said.

He added that education remains a cornerstone of societal development and pledged to continue initiatives that improve the lives of his constituents.

The beneficiaries commended the lawmaker for the support, noting that it would ease their financial burdens and enable them to focus on their studies.
