October 05, (THEWILL) – The South-East Governors Forum on Tuesday condemned Monday’s sit-at-home order given by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and growing insecurity in the region.
The governors in a meeting with selected leaders held at Government House, Enugu, declared that the sit-at-home order is no longer sustainable, adding that those who issued the order were outside the country.
The chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi, who read the resolutions of the meeting, said, “The South East condemned the killings in the region and have agreed to join hands with security agencies to stop the killings.
“The meeting condemned the sit-at-home orders, which are mostly issued by our people in diaspora who do not feel the pains.
“In view of the information that even IPOB had cancelled the sit-at-home, the meeting resolved that governors and all people of the South East do everything within the law to ensure that there is no further sit-at-home in the South East and that people are allowed to freely move about in the zone.”
Those at the meeting were Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State. Abia State was represented by Deputy Governor Ude Oko Chukwu.
National Assembly members from the region, former governors, and a former chief of Army Staff, Azubuike Ihejirika, traditional and religious leaders were also at the meeting.
Participants in the meeting were said to have observed a minute of silence in honour of Nigerians, especially those in the South-east, who have lost their lives to the insecurity around the country.
