August 12, (THEWILL) — Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ogun State, on Monday, asked Jimi Lawal, the former aid to ex-Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, to stop parading himself as a card-carrying member of the party in the state.
Lawal, who was accused of anti-party activities and violation of the party’s constitution, was said to have joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
SDP’s Deputy Chairman, Mr Olusola Coker, who disclosed on Monday, criticised the former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain of impersonating SDP despite alleged defection to ADC’s coalition, insisting that the party remain independent political entity with no merger or coalition agreement with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Coker blamed Lawal of illegally issuing SDP membership cards to ADC members without authorisation from the state leadership.
He said, “This is an illegal possession and distribution of party cards, and it is a clear breach of our constitution.
“Despite this, it has come to our attention that Hon. Jimi Adebisi Lawal continues to present himself as a member of the ADC coalition in Ogun State, He has also been issuing SDP membership cards illegally to his ADC members without the authority of the state Organ of the party.
“This, we consider as illegal possession of the party cards. All these activities are a breach of the party’s constitution
“Since he had not paid any membership due, which is a prerequisite for joining the party, we consider that he is impersonating as a member of our party SDP with this, he is not qualified to or recognised to represent our party at all levels”, he added.
