October 09, (THEWILL) – Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, has regained freedom from the Beninese authorities.

He was released after a two-year trial by the Beninese Government.

Igboho was arrested, along with his wife, on July 20, 2021, in Cotonou, while he was about to board a flight to Germany, weeks after he was declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS).

In a video released on Facebook, Igboho thanked all those who had supported him during his travail and detention in Benin.

“I am now free to return to Nigeria and visit any country in the world. I have fulfilled all the legal conditions attached to my bail a few years back and I am coming home to Nigeria, my country of origin, any moment from now.

“I can confirm to you that I am now free to come back to Nigeria. There is no legal encumbrance again. Even though I have been living in Cotonou for some time, I can confirm to you categorically that I have now secured the liberty to leave Cotonou for Nigeria,” he said.

Leader of the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination group, Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO), Banji Akintoye, who confirmed the development, said Igboho left Cotonou, the capital of the Benin Republic, on Sunday evening for Germany to reunite with his family.
