SAN FRANCISCO, December 04, (THEWILL) – Some arsonists in the wee hours of Friday razed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Dekina Local Government Area, LGA, where tomorrow’s supplementary poll is also scheduled to take place.
Confirming this development to newsmen, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in the state, Malam Halilu Pai stated that as early as 2 am some youths had invaded the affected office seeking to be handed sensitive materials for the supplementary election billed to hold in 91 polling units, most of which are in the LGA.
He however assured that the arson will not affect the election as only non-sensitive materials were lost to the fire.
Assuring that the burnt election materials would be replaced with INEC relocating to a temporary office in the area, Pai averred: “We will not succumb to the undemocratic antics of some few, replacement of the election materials are already on the way; the election will go on as scheduled.”
