GOVERNOR DANBABA SUNTAI OF TARABA STATE BEING USHERED OFF A CHARTERED JET ON HIS ARRIVAL AT THE NNAMDI AZIKIWE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN ABUJA. AUGUST 25, 2013
SAN FRANCISCO, August 25, (THEWILL) – Taraba State Governor, Mr. Danbaba Suntai, returned to Nigeria on Sunday from New York, United States of America, after about 10 months abroad, where he received medical treatment following injuries he sustained when a jet he was piloting crashed near the Yola airport, Adamawa State.
Suntai arrived Abuja on Sunday afternoon in a chartered jet with registration number N388CA belonging to Shelt Air, according to a report in state funded NAN.
News reports said the governor looked healthy and cheerful but seemed unable to walk on his own without being assisted.
Suntai smiled and waved at supporters who had trooped to the airport to welcome him back home, but did not speak to them or journalists as security men battled to control the surging visitors at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport.
It is however not clear when the governor will depart Abuja for Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State.
UPDATE: Suntai Arrives Jalingo
Governor Suntai is back in Jalingo. The plane carrying the governor arrived at the Jalingo airport at 3.40pm local time.
Suntai was met at the airport by his wife and his deputy, who acted as Acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, who both went inside the plane to greet him.
The governor was then assisted off the chartered jet by his wife into a waiting Range Rover Sports SUV.
Suntai waved at the crowd and journalists but did not speak.
He continued to wave from the back seat of the SUV amidst shouts from the crowd as the car left the airport in a convoy of other cars with all the door windows down.
