September 01, (THEWILL) – A Grade 2 teacher in Central Primary School, Karabinde, Niger state, Alhaji Usman Galadima, has been suspended by the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) after sexual allegations levelled against him.
This was disclosed during a media chat by the board’s public relations officer (PRO), Idris Kolo.
Galadima is alleged to have sexually assaulted 14 pupils and threatened to have them killed if they report him. However, a few pupils mustered the courage to report him to the school’s headmistress, Maimunat Tanko.
The headmistress took up the case and reported Galadima to the social welfare department of the Borgu local government area (LGA) on August 25, 2021, TheWILL gathered. This was followed by a visit by the council’s education secretary.
The secretary set up a committee to investigate the matter on August 27, 2021, even as more girls came forward to accuse the teacher of sexually assaulting them.
It was gathered that Galadima appeared before the committee and confessed to the crime.
During the media chat, Kolo said the accused deserves to be punished for what he did to the children. He added that the suspension is the first step to ensuring justice is served.
“The accused is presently with Child Right Protection Agency. We have to move him from Borgu to Minna to save his life from mob action by parents and families of the victims. They are all furious over what he did to their daughters.
”The management of SUBEB has suspended him because, what he did cannot be swept under the carpet by anyone. The state Governor, Alh. Abubakar Sani Bello is not happy with the development,” Idris explained,” he said.
The Director, Niger State Child Right Protection Agency, Barrister Maryam Kolo, confirmed the development in the school.
She explained that the Agency facilitated the case’s transfer from Borgu LGA to Minna for a thorough investigation.
The state police command further corroborated this incident through its PRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun. He said, “the social welfare unit of Borgu LGA reported an incident of defilement of three girls of central primary school, Karabonde to the Police on August 27, 2021.”
He added that the state commissioner of police has ordered a full investigation into the case.
