June 03, (THEWILL) – Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, has finally received her Grammy award plaque.
Tems won the award for Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 65th Grammys on February 6, 2023, for her contribution to Future’s ‘Wait For U’, which also featured Drake.
The singer’s manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, broke the news about the arrival of the plaque on social media on Friday night.
Fans of the singer have taken to the comment section of the post to congratulate her for the win and wish her well in her future endeavours.
Being the first female Nigerian artiste to win a Grammy, the well-endowed singer is also the first female Nigerian singer to be nominated for a Grammy award.
She was nominated in the Best Global Performance category in 2022 for her hit song with Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, ‘Essence’ but lost to Pakistan’s Arooj Aftab.
Ever since then, Tems’ career has been on the rise. She has gone ahead to clinch several other awards such as the Prize for Music at The Future Awards Africa and the Impact Award at the BMI London Awards in recognition of her “ground-breaking artistry, creative vision and impact on the future of music.”
