
November 29, (THEWILL) – At least six bodies have been recovered by officials of the Nigeria Correctional Center, Jos, after suspected terrorists attacked the facility on Sunday.
THEWILL reports that a combined team of security operatives had on Sunday, repelled an attack on the Prison facility following an invasion by terrorists.
Briefing newsmen on the development on Monday, Spokesperson of the Plateau Police Command, ASP Gabriel Ogaba Ubah said; following a full reinforcement of combined team of security Operatives in the state to the centre, nine fleeing inmates have been arrested.
“The State Commissioner of Police directed that Centre should be cordoned off, also directed immediate stop and search which led to the arrest of nine escapees by the police. The nine of them are in our custody while one willingly surrendered himself to the police”, he said.
However, a top security source told THEWILL on Monday, that six dead bodies were recovered after the attack on the Centre but it was not clear if the bodies are those of the gunmen who attacked the facility or inmates who attempted to escape.
He further said that an officer of the Medium Correctional Custodian Centre was killed during the invasion while another was shot in the arm during a duel with the terrorists on Sunday.
Also, the the invaders set the front office and two others where the inmates records and other valuable were been kept on fire during the attack.
Efforts to speak with the Public Relations Officer of the Centre Jeff Longdiem, were abortive as he could not be reached on his phone.
