December 09, (THEWILL) – For the second time this year, THEWILL newspaper has recorded another first for excellence in journalism. Victor Àsowata, the Cartoon Editor, won the cartoon category of the Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting (WSAIR).
Last year, the cartoonist was a runner-up in the same category in the same competition. Winning it this time is evidence of Asowata’s commitment and dedication to his craft.
“I dedicate this award to God and the entire team of THEWILL. It’s not such a big office but we are doing well and in such a short time of the newspaper’s existence,” Asowata said on Thursday at NECA Building, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos, where the event held.
In September, Tony Awonor, Aviation correspondent for the same newspaper, won the first prize at the Nigerian Media Nite-Out Award.
THEWILL newspaper launched the print edition on February 14, 2021. With two awards already, it is clear the publication started on a positive note.
Many awards will surely come, judging from the staff’s professionalism and the management’s drive for success.
“The best is yet to come,” one reporter remarked of Asowata’s victory.
