January 11, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, met with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Although, details of the meeting, which was held behind closed doors on Thursday evening, are sketchy, THEWILL, however, gathered that it may not be unconnected to ongoing political crisis in the State.
President Bola Tinubu had recently brokered peace between Fubara and his political godfather and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The President had committed both parties in the Rivers crisis to 8-point agreement.
The rift between Wike and Fubara had split the 32-member Rivers House of Assembly, with 26 pro-Wike lawmakers defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Despite the agreement reached in Abuja, Wike had last week, told a gathering of some people in Rivers that the people would know who is in charge and control of the State during election.
Speaking when he visited a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Victor Giadom, in his hometown of Bera in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State on Saturday, Wike said, “Forget about these hungry noisemakers on the road. When the time comes, we will know who is in charge and who is not in charge. I don’t know whether you understand what I am saying. There is a time for everything. There is a time to plant and there is a time to harvest.
“We have no time for politics. This is not the time for anybody to say: ‘I am for this, I am for that’. We have not reached that time. When the time comes, we will know who is who”, he maintained.
“If you like, abuse me as you want. If you like, employ everybody on social media. Let me tell you: I have never bothered myself one day to know who is abusing me.
“Politics will come. We didn’t contest elections based on social media. We contested elections speaking to the people and they listened to us.”
