
November 20, (THEWILL) — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to immediately relocate to Kebbi State following the abduction of 25 schoolgirls.
In a statement on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu instructed Matawalle to remain in Kebbi and coordinate security operations aimed at rescuing the abducted students.
The presidency also confirmed that the president has postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola.
According to Onanuga, the decision was taken to enable the president receive continuous security briefings on both the Kebbi schoolgirls’ abduction and the recent attack on Christ Apostolic Church worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State.
Matawalle, who is expected to arrive in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, previously gained experience combating banditry and mass kidnapping during his tenure as governor of Zamfara State from 2019 to 2023.
