March 20, (THEWILL) – Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, senator George Akume, has said President-elect, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, is ready to help the incoming administration in Benue state to tackle the huge debt burden on its neck.
Speaking to newsmen at his Makurdi residence on Monday, senator Akume said Benue people have revolted against bad administration that cannot take care of people’s welfare, nothing that APC candidates in Benue state are knowledgeable about governance and will erase tears off the faces of the suffering masses.
According to him, if Revd Fr Hycinth Alia of APC is declared the winner of the Governorship election in the state, Benue state will be better for it, adding that committees will be set up to look into certain happenings in the present administration.
While commending the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for conducting elections that reflects the feelings of the people, senator Akume pointed out that the incoming administration will take close scrutiny of loans obtained by the outgoing regime in the state, with the aim of ascertaining its usefulness or otherwise.
Responding to a question, the APC leader in the state explained that he appeared to have assisted Samuel Ortom in becoming the governor of Benue state, but when Ortom in some of his outing said it was the holy spirit that made him governor, he would not want to join issues with it.
The Chief Returning Officer in Benue State and Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Minna, Professor Farouk Kuta, commended the peaceful exercise.
The local Government areas that so far presented the election results are Ukum, Logo, Katsina-Ala, Vandeikya, Ushongo, Buruku,Tarka, Makurdi, Guma, Gwer West, Gwer East, Obi, Oju, Oturkpo, Ado, Apa, Agatu, Ohimini, Gboko, Okpokwu.
INEC had suspended elections in Kwande local Government area due to a mix up in distribution of Houses of assembly for Kwande West and Kwande East constituencies, which election will be scheduled at a later date.
