October 08, (THEWILL) – A female lawyer cum activist, Barrister Eyitope Success-Adekunle has cautioned motorists in Lagos State against taking for granted, magnanimity of the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, by committing traffic offences with reckless abandon, asserting that, the stipulated punishment for various traffic offences are still on and solidly on ground.
Barrister Success-Adekunle, who is the Convener of an all women Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Women for Change Initiatives (WCI), dropped the warning note in Lagos Friday against the fine reduction granted for some traffic offenders by Governor Sanwo-Olu, reminding them of the governor’s statement that said, “If I give you this opportunity, you must not be caught again for flouting the traffic rules because the laws are (still) there (to be obeyed) and no one is above the law.”
The woman activist, who commended the governor for his kindness and magnanimity however warned the road users against any act that could sabotage his efforts at creating a saner atmosphere for all and sundry, stressing the need to support him to achieve his aim for a state where sanity would prevail on the road 24/7.
She further pointed out that the motorist should underline the governor’s assertion that, “You all (offenders) have admitted to flouting traffic regulations and you are here because you don’t want to be arraigned for your offences in our mobile court.
“I have requested for the list of all vehicles in this facility and I will be meeting with the Task Force officers on it.
“We will still get judgement on your offences but we will grant you the opportunity for reduction in the fines to be paid.”
“I will intervene to reduce the fines for you and you must be remorseful. Anyone caught again would have his vehicle completely impounded. You must be law-abiding and respect the lives of our fellow citizens.”
The governor was reported to have met with some traffic offenders during an unscheduled visit to the holding facility of the Lagos State Environment and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Task Force) in Alausa.
The purpose of the visit, according to reports, was to assess the operation activities of the unit but some traffic offenders met with the Governor to plead for his intervention in their cases, which he partially granted with a sound warning against repetition of the offences.
