SAN FRANCISCO, March 12, (THEWILL) – Two suspected female suicide bombers, including a pregnant one, were shot dead by security agents in Molai, not far away from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, when they refused to surrender and attempted to attack a security post.
This was revealed in a statement by the spokesman of the Police Command in Borno, Victor Isuku, revealing that the bombers were shot when they attempted to enter Maiduguri through the Umarari in Molai, near Damboa road.
“On Saturday at about 20:45hrs, two female suspected suicide bombers, of about 18 years of age, attempted to enter Maiduguri through Umarari in Molai General Area which is about 9 Kilometres to the township,” the statement read.
“They were sighted by local vigilantes- the Civilian JTF- and consequently shot dead by security personnel on duty at the area.
“The police Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team was mobilised to the scene to render the unexploded improvised explosive device safe, while normalcy has been restored to the area.”
Spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the North-East, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said the rescue workers have evacuated the bodies of the suicide bombers.
“When we got the alert on the incident, the NEMA emergency workers in collaboration with other stakeholders moved to the scene and evacuated the bodies,” Ibrahim said.
THEWILL gathered that there is heavy security presence at the site of the incident while a civilian JTF fighter was injured during the operation.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has rescued 211 civilians held captive by the Boko Haram terrorists at Cingal Murye and Maja villages in Northern Borno.
Thiw sas disclosed by Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, the Director Army Public Relations, in a statement on Sunday revealing that troops of 22 Brigade Garrison, Operation Lafiya Dole, rescued the victims during an operation in the villages.
The statement said that one terrorist was neutralised while 11 bicycles were recovered from the fleeing terrorists.
“In addition, the patrol team escorted two heavy duty trucks and 18 pickup vans to recover Internally Displaced Persons’ food stuff from Mala Maja,” he said.
