
November 05, (THEWILL) – The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), University of Benin, Prof. Ray Ozolua, has won the competitive and highly coveted May & Baker Professional Excellence and Service Award in Pharmacy for 2022.
The university made the announcement in a statement issued by its Public Relations Unit on Saturday, in Benin.
The award was presented to the don in Jos, Plateau, at the 2022 Annual National Conference of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria.
Ozolua is a professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology. He started his academic career as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, University of Benin, in April 1993, where he rose through the ranks to become a Professor in October 2011.
Prof Ozolua has served as a consultant to the Federal Ministry of Health, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, Partnership for Transforming Health Systems 2 (PATHS-2), Medical Sciences for Health (MSH), and United States Agency for International Development (USAID), among others.
He was actively involved in the development of the National Policy on Pharmacovigilance, Standard Treatment Guidelines, and Essential Medicine.
Prof Ozolua enjoys membership in many professional and learned societies such as the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, the Nigeria Association of Pharmacists in Academia, and the West African Society for Pharmacology.
He is a Fellow of the West African Society for Pharmacology (FWASP), and a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (FPSN).
