November 04, (THEWILL) – Nigerian rapper, make-up artist, fashion designer and entrepreneur, Elohor Eva Alordiah, has disclosed the reason behind her retreat from a seemingly flourishing music career and her extended hiatus.
Sharing on her platform, Eva, once celebrated for her exceptional rap, revealed that a few years ago, she realised she was “burnt, broke, and depressed.” Describing herself as the embodiment of the phrase “Starving Artist,” she took a three-year break to invest in self-improvement, and the results have been transformative.
She wrote:
“A few years ago I walked away from a seemingly “successful” music career.
I was burnt out.
Depression had taken an almost permanent seat beside me.
My bank balance was just enough to buy my next meal.
If there was a picture of the phrase “Starving Artist”, it would have been my damn face.
One day, I said “Fuck it! I got myself here, I’m gonna get myself out.”
I invested the next 3 years in relentless self development:
– building my body
– reading ferociously
– taking care of my mind
– investing in online courses
– learning how to make money
– building multiple online businesses
I look back and I swear I wouldn’t change a thing!
Taking responsibility for my shit helped me get my life back.
Today my life is so much better because I was bold enough to say- “Na me fuck up!”
Her introduction to music came from her mother, who immersed her in 1970s and 1980s musical recordings. Eva credits Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Sade Adu, The Carpenters, John Lennon, and Don Williams as her main musical influences.
In 2009, she made her debut in the music scene with “I Dey Play,” her first studio recording. The track, featuring vocals by Tha Suspect, was crafted over Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” instrumental.
In May 2012, reports surfaced that Eva had inked a record deal with Da Trybe 2.0, owned by eLDee. However, by November 2013, Ariya Today disclosed her departure from Trybe Records, citing a misalignment of ideas with the label’s plans. Eva, in an interview with BellaNaija, contested the reports of her Trybe Records affiliation despite the label’s press release. Following the 2012 Trybe Records episode, she took a hiatus from the music scene to reflect on her craft.
