Why I Won’t Reject National Honour – AY

Ayo Makun

May 30, (THEWILL) – Nigerian comedian and actor, Ayo Makun, also known as AY, has stated reasons for not rejecting the national honour bestowed on him on May 29th.

The former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, had bestowed a national honour, Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), on the stand-up comedian.

A fan took to Twitter after AY had expressed how thrilled he was about the award to ask why he didn’t reject it since he is not a supporter of the All Progressive Congress, APC-led government.

While responding, the father of two noted that a national honour is the highest recognition anyone could get for his or her contributions to nation-building, and he is more than happy to accept the honour.

“Those of you shaming or asking me to reject ‘A National Honour’ are clearly missing a vital point.

“Our country is bigger and important than any president or political party awarding it.

“National honour is the highest recognition anyone can get for his or her contributions to nation building.

“So my allegiance is to a country where I have contributed my own quota, and I am more than happy to be rewarded by the same nation,” he tweeted.
