October 26 (THEWILL) – On Wednesday, October 25, Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Afrobeats singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, informed the coroner’s inquest in Ikorodu that they laid Mohbad to rest on September 13, the day after his passing, due to the mortuary’s refusal to accept him.
The father mentioned that the location where Mohbad was laid to rest is on the deceased singer’s own land.
He also told the coroner that on the day his son died, when he got to the house, he went straight upstairs to his room, where he saw blood-soaked clothes before he was told that the deceased was in the living room.
He told the court that the attacks from Samson Larry Alubarika Eletu Balogun, a music producer and show promoter better known as Sam Larry were constant and he had witnessed his son being attacked five times.
He said whenever Mohbad performed on the Island, they would scatter the place, it also happened this year.
The father said, “Mohbad was scared of going out for six months. He said he did not know if the substance he drank at the NDLEA will appear at the airport.”
He said the day Mohbad was inflicted with injury, he saw Naira Marley and his boys and Mohbad said it was customary for them to attack him.
Earlier, during an interview shared by Temilola Sobola (@TemilolaSobola) via Instagram, Aloba gave Yoruba culture as the reason for the quick burial, explaining that it is customary not to delay the burial of a deceased person when both parents are still alive.
He mentioned that if Mohbad had passed away at an older age, the option of keeping his body in a mortuary for a later date might have been considered.
Aloba further revealed that the land where his son was laid to rest belonged to Mohbad and that he had given it to him to build a church. He clarified that the decision to bury him swiftly was in accordance with Yoruba customs.
