December 11, (THEWILL) – Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has cautioned political actors against actions capable of destabilizing the state and distracting the government from its developmental agenda.
The governor issued this warning during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed permanent secretaries and other public office holders in Damaturu.
Buni expressed concern over early political campaigns and agitation about his successor ahead of the 2027 elections, describing such actions as detrimental to the progress of his administration.
“I have noted in recent times the emerging politicking for 2027. As a government, we are focused on delivering our campaign promises to the people. Any deliberate act aimed at overheating the polity to create confusion or divert government’s attention will not be tolerated,” he stated.
The governor further warned that public officers and civil servants engaging in premature political activities would be deemed saboteurs of the government’s objectives.
“This administration still has time to focus on its developmental strides, ensure good governance, and provide efficient services to the people. Any political engagement aimed at 2027 electioneering by public officers will be seen as a deliberate derailment and sabotage,” he emphasised
Addressing the newly sworn-in officials, Buni urged them to dedicate their expertise to advancing the administration’s goals and improving the lives of the people of Yobe.
“You are joining this government at a critical moment when extra efforts are required to actualize our campaign promises. As veterans in your respective fields, I am optimistic that you will prioritize the public interest over personal gains,” Buni noted.
He highlighted the importance of teamwork and rewarding excellence to foster productivity, adding that appointees must uphold the moral and ethical obligations of their offices.
“The Oath of Office and Oath of Allegiance you have just sworn to impose a heavy moral burden on you. You are to carry out your duties with the fear of God and in the interest of the state to justify the trust reposed in you,” the governor added.
Buni reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to developmental strides and called on all stakeholders to support efforts aimed at building a prosperous and unified Yobe State.
