November 14, (THEWILL) — An All Progressives Congress support group, Yoruba Northern Network for Tinubu (YONNET), has declared their commitment to vigorously mobilising support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The group’s National Coordinator, Hon. James Olorunfemi, made this known while addressing journalists in Sokoto. He said the group was birthed from the Yoruba Community Association with structures across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to Olorunfemi, YONNET was established by patriotic Yoruba sons and daughters who are either born or resident in all the nineteen northern states and the FCT, with the collective mission of campaigning for President Tinubu’s re-election.
He further explained that the group is driven by a shared vision to complement the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in strengthening grassroots political mobilisation, voter education, and community engagement ahead of the 2027 polls.
“We agreed to support the president, Asiwajo Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to come back in 2027, at the general meeting of the Yoruba community in Benue State.
“We believe the Yoruba community in the northern region represents a powerful and organised bloc with deep social and economic roots across the communities where they reside,” he said.
Olorunfemi also noted that the network intends to harness this influence towards consolidating what he described as the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration.
This, he added, includes ensuring continuity of what the group considers progressive governance, as well as expanding the APC’s presence in every ward and polling unit across the northern region.
He further explained that YONNET’s mobilisation drive would focus on sensitising grassroots voters in Yoruba-populated communities, promoting the ideals, policies, and programmes of the APC, and strengthening the party’s support base at the local level.
According to the National Coordinator, YONNET, who will be inaugurated in all states in the North, and all the presidents of the Yoruba community in their respective states will act as the state coordinators.
He further explained that the group will use the existing structure of the Yoruba community, local government area, and wards to steer its activities.
In an earlier letter addressed to the APC national secretary, and signed by President-General, Yoruba Community 19 Northern States and FCT, Barr. Afiss A. Adigun, alongside Deputy Coordinator, Dcns Ayorinde Deborah, Secretary, Mr Ogifila Bayo Adewole, and Prof. Owolabi Badmus Ajayi, Director of Evaluation and Strategy, urged the party office in the respective state to give maximum support to YONNET.
They said the group is expected to roll out a series of engagement activities in the coming months as part of its broader strategy for the 2027 election cycle.
