December 22, (THEWILL) – The Federal Inland Revenue Service on Sunday distributed food and non-food items to victims of the recent flooding that devastated Maiduguri and its environs.
The relief materials, which included bags of rice, sugar, cooking oil, mosquito nets, mats, detergents, mosquito coils, and beverage packs, were distributed in collaboration with the Blessed Royal Jewel Foundation, a non-governmental organization.
Nigerian actor and film producer Uzee Usman, who represented the Blessed Royal Jewel Foundation during the distribution, described the intervention as timely, given the harsh impact of the floods on vulnerable residents, especially during the festive season.
“Blessed Royal Jewel Foundation brought me to Maiduguri to help distribute food and relief items to flood victims and other vulnerable groups during this festive period,” Usman stated.
He added, “I feel blessed to contribute to society, particularly to people who genuinely need support during these challenging times.”
Speaking on behalf of FIRS, Akpana Benedicta noted that the gesture was aimed at alleviating the economic hardship caused by the floods and bringing relief to affected residents during the yuletide.
“FIRS is here to express our sympathy for the tragedy that befell the citizens and locals in Maiduguri. We aim to support them with food items, provisions, toiletries, and other essentials to help them navigate this festive season,” she said.
While acknowledging the delay in delivering the aid, Benedicta expressed satisfaction at the eventual success of the initiative.
Hadded, “We would have been here earlier, but work schedules delayed us. However, we are happy to finally reach out to those in need.”
She revealed that the palliative distribution reached 300 victims, emphasizing that the effort was part of FIRS’ activities to celebrate the yuletide.
One of the beneficiaries, Abdulahi Bashir, expressed deep appreciation for the relief items, noting their significance to his household.
“All thanks to FIRS and Blessed Royal Jewel Foundation. We truly appreciate this gesture and pray for God’s blessings on Nigeria and Nigerians,” Bashir said.
The initiative underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing the plight of flood victims and providing timely support to communities in distress.
