November 17, (THEWILL) — The Northern Elders Progressive Group has described the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by citizens of Zamfara State as a timely development that reinforces confidence in the administration’s commitment to good governance.
The position was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Sokoto by the group’s Coordinator, Alhaji Yusuf Abubakar.
Abubakar commended the Minister of State for Defence and former Governor of Zamfara State, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, for what he described as his strategic political leadership and contributions toward addressing security challenges in the North.
He said Matawalle’s recent visit to Zamfara had contributed to restoring calm and strengthening ongoing security operations, adding that the engagement had “yielded the desired goals of hope and stability across northern states.”
According to him, recent military operations have continued to weaken bandit enclaves and improve security in Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Sokoto and Kebbi states.
“It is indeed a blessed visit, judging by the achievements recorded, especially the measures taken by military operations to ensure continuous onslaughts against bandits’ hideouts in the region”, he said.
Abubakar maintained that sustained military action remains the most viable approach to ending banditry and other forms of criminality, noting that such measures have proven more effective than previous attempts at dialogue with bandit groups.
He praised Matawalle for supporting security agencies in their efforts, adding that the collaboration had led to the destruction of several criminal camps and networks.
The group also lauded the efforts of “Operation Fasin Yamma” and appealed to President Tinubu to further strengthen the initiative by increasing operational equipment and support for troops, particularly in Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto and Kaduna states.
While commending the President’s commitment to national security, Abubakar expressed hope that enhanced measures against banditry and criminal activities would be prioritised in vulnerable communities across the North.
He described the endorsement of President Tinubu by Zamfara residents ahead of 2027 as “a significant vote of confidence” and an encouragement for continued progress in security, peace and economic development.
The group further applauded the gallant troops for their dedication to safeguarding lives and restoring stability in affected areas.
