August 27, (THEWILL) – The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), has declared President Emmerson Mnangagwa, as winner of the August 23-24 presidential election.
ZEC Chairman, Priscilla Chigumba, declared Mnangagwa re-elected on Saturday, after he polled 2,350,711 (52.6 percent of the total votes cast), to beat 10 other candidates to win reelection for a second five-year term.
Mnangagwa’s main challenger and opposition, Citizens for Coalition Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, polled 1,967,343 votes or 44 percent of the valid votes cast, Chigumba said.
“Mnangagwa Emmerson Dambudzo of ZANU-PF party is declared duly elected president of the Republic of Zimbabwe with effect from Aug. 26, 2023”, Chigumba said, adding that Mnangagwa’s ruling ZANU-PF party also won the majority of the 210 parliamentary seats.
