May 13, (THEWILL) – Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has condemned the recent wave of deadly attacks carried out by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in parts of the state, including Maiduguri-Damboa Road, Marte, Chibok, Gwoza, Kala Balge, and other affected communities.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, on Monday, the Governor expressed deep sympathy to the families of all victims, including those killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road.
The explosion, which occurred on May 12, claimed the lives of two staff members of the Damboa Local Education Authority, who were on their way to Maiduguri to take the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) examination. Several soldiers and civilians have also lost their lives in the recent upsurge of violence.
“These acts of terror are deeply condemnable. The tragic loss of our education workers, gallant troops, and innocent civilians is a painful reminder of the security challenges we continue to face,” Zulum said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the Federal Government, the military, and other security agencies to address the persistent insecurity in the region.
“I am more determined than ever to support our military, security agencies, and volunteer forces in the fight to end terrorism and insurgency in Borno,” he added.
Zulum also referenced his recent visit to Gwoza, where he met with military personnel and members of the Izge community to assess the security situation and boost local resilience.
“The recent surge in attacks will not break our spirit. I urge the people of Borno to stay strong and prayerful. This is but a partial eclipse — and we shall overcome it, Insha Allah,” he assured.
The Governor concluded by extending his condolences to the families of the fallen security operatives and civilians, praying for peace and continued strength for the people of Borno State.
